Radar

Picture

Radar is a Jack Russell(esk) Terrier.  We saw his cute face on a website for rescued animals and decided to check him out. We made arrangements to meet his foster parents from the Friends for Animals Sanctuary in Brevard County at a marina dock with the idea that if he would board the boat with no problem and seemed to like it, he could stay.  Radar jumped onto the Arc, sniffed every inch of the top deck and then sat down as if to say “When are we leaving?”  He stole our hearts and he’s been with us ever since.

Note:

Because Radar was a Rescue dog, we never knew his true origin and for years thought he was some sort of Jack Russell mix.  Then about a year ago I posted a picture of Radar on a pets on boats Facebook page.  Someone commented that he was NOT a Jack Russell but in fact was a
Portuguese Podengo.  We researched this on the internet and sure enough, without a doubt, HE IS!

According to Wikipedia, the Podengo accompanied Portuguese explorers on their ships as early as the 13th century and was probably kept on board explorer ships when the Portuguese initiated their European worldwide explorations in the 15th and 16th centuries.  They are small, friendly, hardy, lively and intelligent companions. Loyal and fearless, Pedengo's are good guard dogs and are very trainable but exhibit primitive dog behavior (unrefined, "less domesticated")

Yes!  That's our Radar!!!
